Want to visit Spiti?For me travelling to Spiti and spending as much time as I can there have become a kind of addiction,to which, come the good season, I can only give in. And I am not the only one, the small bunch of foreigners and Indians who keep going back there is growing steadily.
Speaking for myself, the reason for this unstoppable feeling is very clear: there is no place on earth where I feel and function better. And I guess it's basically the same for most of the "addicted" souls ... I knew there was something special about this place even before going there, but it took me a few trips to feel what I feel there now.
In the beginning I always thought I would not tell anybody about Spiti, to avoid "spoiling" such a nice and fairly untouched place. But then I realized one cannot stop people from going somewhere and everybody has a right to discover a place like Spiti.
So it became apparent to me that, on the contrary, I should take people there, to show them the place at its best, to let them go through doors not open to everybody, to share exilarating experiences, and ultimately to make them happy...
And I realised that I should start doing this soon, before the place and its people take the same (wrong) direction that was taken by other
areas with a similar landscape and culture, as it happened to Ladakh for example.
I am not a travel agent, but my dear friend Lotey is. Born and based in Spiti, he runs a government approved and registered travel and trekking agency in Kaza, by far the best and most reliable, and he is also the manager of one of the best hotels in the valley. Thanks to the experience he gained in running one of the most successful hotels and restaurants in Manali for a decade, and thanks to a lot of good connections in many parts of India, Lotey can arrange fully customised trips to Spiti through Kinnaur or through the Kullu Valley. He will book all your hotel rooms on the way to and in Spiti and you will find a car waiting for you in front of Delhi international airport, if you wish. The driver will take you to all the places you want to visit and if you like he also takes you back to Delhi airport. Of course you decide on the duration of your trip, the type of accommodation, including a trekking or not, and so on.
As for me, I can give you all the information I gathered during my long stays in Spiti, or if you like, I can act as your guide once you reach there, organised or on your own. Our concept is indeed maximum freedom for the customer to choose whatever formula he would like to travel with.
